Software Product Company

The Challenge
A software product company was struggling to get products to market and had been using a part-time developer to develop their launch products. The availability of the developer was limiting their business plan and they did not want to commit to a full time developer before they had committed sales and the cost of a contractor was prohibitive.

The part-time developer was also trying to respond to constantly changing demands from the business and the source code had become messy and uncontrolled.

The Solution
We provided a developer on a short term basis at a much cheaper rate than a contractor which gave the business a chance to develop their core products. We took over the source code from the developer and applied proper source code control and versioning.

As the business grew, we were able to develop a variety of versions of the software to suite the business’ customers and run numerous pilots. This involved liaising with the hosting company in the UK as well as a part-time manager who was brought on board to control the every growing number of projects.

Tools such as Sharepoint and Remote Desktop allowed remote management of the projects. As everyone was working from home there were no office costs to the business.

The Benefits

  • The reduced cost of development allowed the business to create core products at a greatly reduced risk.
  • Reduced time to market.
  • The business did not need to commit to a full time developer before they had sales to support the income. This allowed them to have a respite from development costs whilst they acquired sales.
  • Proper source code control and versioning allowed a manageable way of running several pilots to allow the business to grow.
  • Remote management of the projects eliminated office costs.
  • The business was able to grow into a thriving software products company.
