Recruitment Software Application – Software House

 

The Challenge
Prior to the availability and onset of the internet, helped market and develop a software application for the UK recruitment industry working for a small one man band company which later became a market leading product in the UK with 250 established recruitment customers and over 500 sites. The application was needed to search 1000’s of CV’s and keywords instantly and be able to produce a list of matching candidates with CV’s so that a recruiter could quickly review a list of potential candidates and forward their CV’s to a prospective employer. In the day many of the recruitment companies were using a manual and time consuming method to search and select CV’s for submission to a client – this process was slow and often meant that they could never deliver CV information on time to fulfil employment requirements. The application would reduce the data entry times and improve search and selection time to literally seconds to allow recruitment companies to forward CV’s to their clients as soon as they received a requirement. Using this software also meant that recruitment companies were always first to the post and could service multiple requirements very quickly.

The Solution
The application was written for the fast and efficient DOS operating environment (Windows wasn’t around at the time) using a 4GL called Revelation. These tools were state of the art and allowed users to implement PC networks across their offices with minimal file serving requirements i.e. a 486 server would service 50 PC’s quickly The solution also integrated with MS Word so that CV’s could be formatted in the most sought after word processor of its time and either be printed or emailed. CV information was also held in the database so that a combination of free text words and skills sets could be used when searching for candidates. In order to speed up the data input process, CV scanning and interpretation was also developed so that multiple CV’s could enter the system everyday and be ready for searching. All client, candidate and vacancy details and contact information were held in the system and the solution provided referential integrity with an audit history which could be viewed by candidate, client or vacancy record. Good system navigation was also made available making it easy for a recruiter to talk to a client or candidate and move around the system easily.
