Image Capture Functionality For Endoscopy Suite
The Challenge
An endoscope unit used at a large London teaching hospital produced images to a screen that a doctor can review. The unit allowed a reviewer to send a copy of the image to a printer and save the endoscopy examination results to a patient record in a web based application. As part of new functionality required, the hospital requested that instead of just printing the images to paper they wanted to save an electronic version of the images to a patient record.
The Solution
Qualitiva liaised with the endoscopy hardware manufacturer to provide an image capture facility for the unit. We developed a windows based application that would capture a predefined area of the viewing screen on a key press. We collaborated with the endoscopy unit manufacturer to modify its functionality to be able to operate with our software application. This was done so that a trigger would now save a captured image to a folder on the computer. A doctor can now provide an endoscopy examination, capture multiple images and save any image to an electronic patient record during this process.
The Benefits
- A simple trigger on endoscopy hardware captures images for review on a screen.
- Selected Images are saved to the PC instantly.
- A doctor now has the flexibility to review all images after an examination and discard those he does not want.
- An electronic version of saved images can be saved to a patient record.
- No changes to the web based application were required.
- Paper based printouts were no longer required.
