Glass Processing Computer Aided Manufacture
The Challenge
A glass toughening plant was manually performing its administration and manufacturing process.
There were many issues as a result: -
- Time consuming tasks requiring highly skilled staff members were
limiting throughput
- High wastage of glass as a result of manual optimisation of the glass
cutting process
- Highly manual operations were required to complete the production
and delivery processes
- The ordering process was manual leading to missed orders, poor
delivery the customer requirements and late delivery
- Quotations were a manual process which was very time consuming
and lead to poorly costed jobs
The Solution
We wrote a bespoke, end to end, production and administration application. The application contained
all the costing and pricing information for the production of toughened glass and allowed the sales
team to cost effectively and quickly for orders. Quotes could then be automatically transferred to a live
order and were batched together into a production run.
Production then involved optimising and automating the glass cutting process with interfaces to the
glass cutting table and output displays massively reducing the wastage and time involved. Sorting and
racking of the glass through the toughener again massively reduced the time through the toughener
and reducing costs.
The deliver of the orders was optimised by interfacing with a route planning application and the
labelling, packaging and loading of the orders onto the delivery lorry then followed the planned route.
The Benefits
- Better costing and pricing
- Massive increase in production throughput
- Massive efficiency increases in production processes
- Reduced reliance on highly skilled staff
- Reduced costs
- Increased profits
- Increased capacity
- Increased orders
- Better customer satisfaction
