The Challenge
Our Airline customer was using a legacy MRO application to control its vehicle maintenance
operations. The application was written in house by an enthusiastic employee and grew over the
years to run their entire operation. The database was poorly designed and had no referential integrity
leading to inconsistent data. The application was also not flexible and changes to business processes
were impossible. MIS requests were often hard to deliver and there was a reports wish from
numerous departments that spanned 5 years. There was little or no documentation around the
application and the business was highly reliant on the employee for its
continued operation. The application ran on a very costly hardware
platform that was no longer suitable for the operation.
The Solution
The entire end to end business processes of the customer were analysed
from commitment to production and delivery. Business processes were
streamlined to suit the operation. Agreement for the new processes was
gained from all parties in the organisation. From the analysis, a suitable
technology platform was recommended and selected that handled the
business requirements and was by comparison cost effective.
A web application using an object oriented design was written allowing for
flexibility, scalability and greater access.
