Cancer Audit for London University Hospital
The Challenge
A large university hospital was using a semi-manual system to forward patients
for further treatment who had undergone a radiology examination and found to
have cancerous tissue. The original system was written in-house and required
manually checking a list output from the radiology database. The list required
careful management to be processed by several administrators and to prevent
patients falling through the system and missing their treatment.
The Solution
Qualitiva developed a middleware application to load the patients list from the
radiology database into a Cancer Audit database that allowed hospital
administrators to login and process the list via a web application. The
application recorded the decisions and actions required for each patient and
provided an audit trail. Once a patient had been properly processed, they were
then sent for further treatment and came off the “unactioned” list.
The Benefits
- Patients booking and throughput was greatly increased
- They now receive the required treatment in a timely manner
- Much less manual processing required and reduced administration costs for the hospital
- There is a full audit of the decisions and actions taken from the radiology results.
